What does LBC mean to you?

For over 40 years LBC has been working with families and educators to provide quality arts education experiences. Many of our patrons, volunteers, and friends tell us that their very first experience with LBC was a School Show as a child, or a borrowed instrument from our Music for Schools lending library, or a Family Fun Series show with a beloved grandparent that left a fond memory. What's your LBC story? We invite you to share with us a favorite (or first) memory of YourLBC, whether personally or as a teacher with a success story to tell!

Community Leadership Awards at Fiesta de Independencia

The 15th annual Fiesta de Independencia presented by Redwood Credit Union on September 15 saw a record number of participants! A highlight of the event each year is the Community Leadership Awards given by LBC and our partner, Los Cien, for outstanding commitment to the Latiné community.

Karina Garcia, now Bilingual Communications Specialist for Sonoma County’s central Communications Division, received the award for an individual’s contribution. She was praised for her work at the County Supervisorial District 1 Office, where she is essential in providing community outreach and language access tools and resources, especially during the pandemic.

Migrant Education Sonoma County Module received the organization leadership award for offering supplemental educational programs and services to ensure equitable access to postsecondary education for migrant children from farm-working families.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients!

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Friday January 21, 2025 at 9:30 am

Grades 7-12

This stage adaptation features verbatim portions of what is widely considered one of the great American novels, The Great Gatsby. In this one-man-show, we follow midwestern WWI veteran Nick Carraway, who moves to New York City in search of employment after the war. In the height of the Jazz Age and Prohibition Era, Nick is soon pulled into the world of the rich and powerful by way of his cousin, Daisy; her husband, Tom; and a mysterious millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Relish in the privilege and face the pitfalls each character encounters as they each reach for their own “green light.” Explore themes of social class, “old money” versus “new money” ideology, gender, race, environmentalism, and the price of the American Dream.

ARTS INTEGRATION RESIDENCY

Exploring Historical Figures through Papercraft

Grades: 3-5
Subject: English Language Arts, Social Studies, Visual Art

History books are full of images of historical figures that provide information often not found in the written text. In this residency, students learn how to read a portrait to gain a deeper understanding of an historical figure and what they might have been like as real humans. Students will create a small book using a variety of household and found items to hold the pieces they discover about an historical figure as well as insights they learn about themselves in the process. Led by Tracy Sawyer, keeper of stories through scrapbooking, paper crafting, and journaling.
