Music for Schools Spring instrument requests are up from Prop 28 funding

With the newly-available Prop 28 funding, schools can provide new music opportunities to students—and with that comes requests for more instruments! Many hundreds of students have learned with the aid of a Music for Schools instrument since the program’s inception in 2000.  With Prop 28 funding, the need for free instruments in the community went from great to greater.

There are currently 953 Music for Schools instruments on loan, representing a whopping 85% of the lending library. That’s a benchmark number of instruments loaned out completely free of charge to students in school and community-based music programs.

The “before” image on the left is generally how the storage space looks from June to August when instruments are returned for inventory and repair.  The image on the right is how the storage space looks today. Wow! What a positive impact on our community!

School district representatives: Get involved in the Latino Advisory Council!

Be a part of LBC’s mission!

As we continually look toward inclusion and excellence, we look to our community members to join us!  Our annual Latino Advisory Council Kick-Off party on April 3 is an opportunity for us to thank current Council members and bring prospective members together to share a bit about the work we do.  We’re currently looking for increased school district participation on the LAC and would love to extend the invitation to our school district partners!

LBC’s Latino Advisory Council (LAC), a partnership between a group of community leaders and LBC staff and board leadership, have shared a vision to create engaging programs through community collaboration, cultivating relationships with our community, and celebrating Latino arts and artists.  The LAC shapes annual events such as Fiesta de Independencia and Posada Navideña. The incredibly popular Mariachi Ensemble started as an idea from this group, which has grown to serve more than 130 students from all over Sonoma County.

We are immensely grateful for the continued support and guidance from the members of the LAC as we strive to ensure that LBC remains relevant, welcoming, and accessible to everyone in our community.

If you’re a school district representative or anyone interested in learning more about the LAC and how to get involved, please reach out to us at education@lutherburbankcenter.org
