Exciting news, just in time for gift giving and stocking stuffing! We are offering a bilingual, professionally printed 2025 calendar to support LBC’s afterschool programs! This beautiful calendar features students from the Mariachi Ensemble and Ballet Folklórico programs, capturing a few of the unforgettable moments they’ve shared throughout the year. The 9"x12" calendars are $20 each (cash or check only). All proceeds will go to supporting these free after-school programs that expand access to the arts for local school children. Sonoma Mountain Elementary Charter School holds their second Hip Hop dance showcase with skills learned in their LBC artist residency!

As part of their continuing Artists in the School residencies with LBC, Sonoma Mountain Elementary Charter School held a showcase on Friday, December 6 for all students and their families! The arts charter and LBC teamed up to give SoMo’s 3rd through 6th graders the opportunity to share the Hip Hop dance techniques and routines they have learned with LBC Teaching Artist Jasmyn Haralson. The room was buzzing and packed as students and parents showed immense support and spirit for the performers!

In the spring, TK through 2nd grades will have their turn to dance and learn over six weeks, then share with another end-of-residency showcase.

This is the second year of Sonoma Mountain Elementary’s partnership with LBC to bring quality arts education to their students. Like all LBC’s Artists in the Schools residencies, we worked directly with the school to tailor the work for their goals—which just so happened to be one awesome performance!  We can’t wait to see another at SoMo in the spring!

In this interactive session, participants will explore the transformative power of oral narrative in fostering inclusive learning environments. Through engaging activities and reflective practices, this workshop emphasizes that everyone has a story to tell – even our young people – and that these stories shape our unique perspectives on the world. By gaining insight into their own narratives and those of others, educators will develop tools to begin to create spaces where student voices are amplified, respected, and valued. Participants will hear directly from young people, hearing their perspectives on how to center student voices to create equitable, inclusive, and supportive classrooms that celebrate diversity and promote deeper understanding.

Students will explore the magical nature of painting in watercolor with this expansive residency. We will cover fundamental watercolor painting techniques, while painting nature inspired subjects such as botanicals, animals, and the sky. This stage adaptation features verbatim portions of what is widely considered one of the great American novels, The Great Gatsby. In this one-man-show, we follow midwestern WWI veteran Nick Carraway, who moves to New York City in search of employment after the war. In the height of the Jazz Age and Prohibition Era, Nick is soon pulled into the world of the rich and powerful by way of his cousin, Daisy; her husband, Tom; and a mysterious millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Relish in the privilege and face the pitfalls each character encounters as they each reach for their own “green light.” Explore themes of social class, “old money” versus “new money” ideology, gender, race, environmentalism, and the price of the American Dream.

Explore the rich culture of Hawaii as we discover the Native Hawaiian relationship with pa‘akai (salt).  Traditionally, pa‘akai is food, medicine, a sacrament, and a treasured gift which requires determination and inherited knowledge to harvest correctly. Follow a family of multiple generations of salt farmers on the island of Kauai. Enjoy ancient stories, hula, live music, original songs, and plenty of audience participation in this beautiful performance.

Artistic Director and founder Victor Quijada was born to Mexican parents and raised in Los Angeles, thriving in the b-boying circles and hip-hop clubs. Quijada founded RUBBERBAND in 2002, after working in New York and Montreal in classical ballet, winning praise for combining the choreographic principals of ballet with the raw ideology of urban dance. The company’s creations are imbued with a strong theatricality, the energy of improvisation, and the codes of cinematic language. They are sculpted by an incomparable precision of gesture. RUBBERBAND Dance Company has redefined the codes of break, classical ballet, and dance theatre.
