Arts Education Symposium at LBC
Monday, April 14, 3:00 – 5:30 pm
LBC is thrilled to partner with Creative Sonoma on this event to connect principals, superintendents, chief business officers, HR, school arts teachers, and school arts leads with Sonoma County arts providers and offers valuable information about how to build and support arts programs with Prop 28. Schools and school district leaders will learn about compliance with Prop 28, explore other funding sources, and share strategies for scheduling, curriculum development, staffing, and strategic planning. Presentations will be made by Dr. Eric Engdahl, currently serving on the statewide Prop 28 Committee, SCOE VAPA Coordinator Nzinga Woods, and Petaluma City Schools VAPA Lead, Erinn VanderMeer. Sonoma County arts providers can table and present their organization's offerings. Arts providers will connect with schools to establish and strengthen partnerships.
Learn what's going on in Sonoma County that can impact students! A new countywide arts education plan, an international early childhood art experience, a new arts educator certificate at the SRJC and the award for Arts Educator of the Year. Sonoma County Superintendent, Dr. Amie Carter, will speak about the importance of arts education for all students.
Participants will enjoy appetizers and beverages as they network and learn about opportunities to support arts education. Help us spread the word and ensure that your district is represented at this event!

Master Class Magic with RUBBERBAND Dance Company
What happens when you put serious, advanced-level high school dance students in a master class led by a professional touring artist? Last Wednesday, 20 students from Analy High School in Sebastopol and their dance teacher, Jolene Johnson, experienced something magical while working with Victor Quijada, Artistic Director and Founder of the dance troupe, RUBBERBAND.
In the 90-minute master class, Victor led |

students through scaffolded moves unique to RUBBERBAND's signature style that combines principals of classical ballet with urban dance. “Many students, who appreciate the skills they develop in Jolene’s dance class, remarked that having a renowned dancer and artistic director take those skills and efforts seriously took them to a whole new level,” said Tracy Sawyer, Community Partnerships Supervisor. “It truly is magic to be able to offer these beautiful and inspiring opportunities to students of all ages."
LBC develops opportunities with visiting performers for an exchange of knowledge, inspiration, and hands-on learning experiences. By working closely with these artists, students investigate their own creative potential and are encouraged to develop a life-long appreciation of the arts.
We aim to make these opportunities available to a wide range of participants, but please note that not all Master Classes and Student Clinics are open to the public.
For more information about this or other master class opportunities, please contact Tracy Sawyer.
