Honor the Impact of 2026’s Best Arts Educators!

Arts Educator Award nominations open

Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and Creative Sonoma have issued a call for nominations for the 2026 Sonoma County Arts Educator of the Year Award. This is your chance to honor the difference that art, and arts educators in particular, make in the lives of our local students.

While only one arts educator receives the award each year, you probably know a few who deserve the distinction of being nominated and then recognized by a full committee of arts leaders who evaluate the submissions.

Anyone can submit a nomination for the award, providing evidence of the nominee’s qualifications is included. Self-nominations are accepted. Deadline for nominations is January 23, 2026.

2025 Arts Educator of the Year: Actor, Puppeteer, Movement Artist Heather Gobbée

Sponsored by Daniels Chapel of the Roses, the Arts Educator of the Year award honors professional K-12 arts educators who have made significant contributions to the advancement of arts education – in particular, arts and classroom instructors who teach visual art, music, drama, dance, or multimedia arts.

On behalf of the Sonoma County Arts Education Alliance, the winner will provide a voice and advocacy for excellence at up to three local events and/or forums and will be honored at its annual event in the spring of 2026. The award recipient also will receive a $500 honorarium and a $500 gift card to a favorite local arts store for classroom supplies.

Program Spotlight

Celebrating Día de los Muertos and Hispanic Heritage Month

LBC’s student Mariachi Ensemble is honored to take part in many local Día de los Muertos celebrations across Sonoma County, including Windsor, Santa Rosa, and SRJC campuses. Performing at such fosters a deep connection to culture and community for our students. Sharing the beautiful, traditional music of mariachi signifies why community engagement is at the heart of our student Mariachi program. Our Mariachi Ensemble participates in events such as these during Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the year, focusing on impactful experiences for both the students and the community. Our students not only learn music that reflects Latino culture, but also explore the important traditions, holidays connections, and significant regional celebrations.

Thank you to our community for your continued support!

Together we travel back in time on a musical journey through the decades with young John Lewis.  Young John, who dreams of being a preacher, doesn’t have a congregation yet, but a loyal group of singing chickens that listen to him as he finds his voice. On a harrowing road trip through the South, John’s eyes and mind are opened to the injustices of segregation and racism, inspiring him to take action. As John meets Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and ultimately becomes a leader and American hero himself, Jayden learns how he can be become a leader, too.
