Musical artist Dahlak uses spoken word poetry to narrate the complex history of our nation, from gospel to blues, jazz to R&B, and more. This musical chronicle shows that despite conflict and misunderstanding, we are still brilliantly creative and resilient.

An Idea?

Told through movement, music, and narration, an ensemble of dancers creates a magical world where ideas grow and take flight. Based on the New York Times best-selling book, this is a story for anyone, at any age, who has ever had an idea that seemed a little too big, too odd, or too difficult.

 
 

Finding Wisdom Through African Drumming

Instructor: Onye Onyemaechi
Grades: 6-12
Subjects: Music, Social Studies, Social-Emotional Learning


Students will learn basic drumming techniques, discover the drum’s historical and cultural context, and use both to enhance their social-emotional skills.

Mitigating Unconscious
Bias and Micro-Aggressions in the Classroom

In this workshop, participants will explore aspects of their own identity through the lens of media and lived experience to consider how those aspects are depicted, whether positive or negative. This training will provide participants with critical insights that will inform their instruction as well as techniques to identify and address unconscious bias and micro-aggressions that may surface in an educational setting.

Educators have a responsibility to ensure a welcome, safe, and supportive learning environment. Whether directly interacting with students, parents, or colleagues or witnessing interactions between others, participants will explore concrete, actionable, tools and methods in order to be advocates and allies for their students, themselves, and others.
