Meet the Teaching Artist: Taylor Haney
Taylor is one of our dance teaching artists here at LBC working with TK-3rd grade classrooms all over the county since 2019. She first started dancing seriously in high school as the choreographer for Windsor High School Dance Team, and now continues to dance and teach throughout Sonoma. When she's not working with us, she's running her own studio, Canopy Dance Company in Santa Rosa.
Taylor says one of her favorite methods of dance in her classes is creative freestyle, which gives her a chance to see each student's unique freedom of expression. She believes "everybody is somebody who can dance," and she is helping to bring that joy of movement to our Sonoma County students.

Mariachi Institute for all music educators!
Take advantage of this opportunity to collaborate with fellow music instructors and expand your skills. Traditional instruments in mariachi music, such as the guitarrón and vihuela, require particular skills, like any music genre. Gain a thorough understanding of the history and methods of playing specific instruments. Have the opportunity to perform mariachi music solo and with other talented instructors as we explore rhythms such as Huapango and Sone techniques and even the elements needed to create your own mariachi program. Led by LBC Music Specialist José Soto.

Yes Indeed! demonstrates the blues’ roots in work songs, spirituals, hymns, field hollers, and chants of 19th century southern U.S. The distinct sound emerged as a creative expression for persisting through hardship and prevailing over adversity. In discovering this uniquely American musical style, students will identify the blues as the inspiration for R&B, funk, gospel, rock, and hip hop.

Cenicienta: A Bilingual Cinderella Story

Ten-year-old Latina Belinda is a budding poet and storyteller. While she’s stuck in the basement as her stepmother and stepsisters prepare for a party they’re hosting upstairs, Belinda reenacts her version of the classic tale Cinderella using creativity and everyday household objects—a napkin, a teapot, doilies, just to name a few. When Belinda learns that the party’s special guest is her hero, real life writer Gary Soto, she realizes she must stand up for herself and take charge of her dreams if she wants to share her writing with him. This captivating bilingual one-woman performance is a modern spin on the beloved fairy tale and tackles cultural heritage, family, and the power of language.

Mastery Through Movement: Bringing English to Life for Early Language Learners
Instructor: Bridget Palmer
Grades: PK-2
Subjects: Drama, English Language Arts
Give your students a leg up in their academic career by inspiring them to get down to business in this imaginative movement-based approach to mastering foundational language skills. Under the cover of make-believe play, students will embody skills like curves and straight lines, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, nouns, types of sentences, prepositions, figurative language, affixes, prefixes, antonyms, synonyms, categories, shades of meaning, and story details like setting, character, events, feelings, and the five senses. This playful residency is led by Bridget Palmer, Director of Santa Rosa Children’s Theater and a graduate of a 4-year Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement professional training program.
