April 2023

LBC’s Mariachi Ensemble Student wins the top prize in “Future Farmers of America’s Got Talent” competition, headed to Nationals

It all started with a video.

Adrian Soto, vilheula player in the advanced section of LBC's Mariachi Ensemble, Mariachi Cantares de Mi Tierra, is a member of Santa Rosa High School's chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA). Adrian grew up surrounded by music and—fun fact—he is part of his family's mariachi band, Sonoma County’s own Mariachi Barragan.

Adrian took the challenge to submit a video for "FFA's Got Talent" competition. Among the many submissions for dance and singing from student hopefuls throughout the state, Adrian

was selected as one of 14 students invited to compete at the State Leadership Conference that was held last month in Ontario, southern California.

After an intense selection process, including two performances, Adrian was one of two students selected to perform in the final piece of the competition at the Toyota Arena in front of an audience of over 7,000 FFA students, advisors, and guests. Adrian's stellar performance earned him the win for California, which means he will move on to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in November.

"I had no idea I would win, especially with all the other amazing performances,” Adrian said. ”I have no idea what to expect in Indianapolis, but I will do my best."

Best of luck to you, Adrian! Everyone at LBC is proud of you and your accomplishments.

Stay tuned for the rest of Adrian’s story later in the year.

Upcoming Event

Celebrate student success with LBC’s Free Music Appreciation Day at the Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market!

Now in its second year on home turf in the footprint of the Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market!, Music Appreciation Day is ready to go with an amazing line-up. With performances from student mariachi classes, adult guitar class, local school choirs and bands, there will be a lot of great music to enjoy!

"This annual, rain-or-shine event gives hard-working students a chance to perform,” says Tracy Sawyer who organizes the event.

“While it’s a lot of fun, perhaps more importantly, this is an opportunity to advocate for music in schools and community-based programs. These students and their music teachers are doing great work, and we need to celebrate them!" For the first time, LBC’s own adult guitar class students join the performance line-up! The event is free and open to the public. Join us!
