Happy New Year!
Music Educators, Join Us at LBC’s Mariachi Institute

Mariachi music relies on the same fundamentals as any classical score and is steeped in a rich cultural tradition.  With the success of our Mariachi After-School Program, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts is poised to share the secrets for creating a student mariachi at your own school or district.

Sejal Thakkar
We’re presenting two stand-alone sessions for music educators, professional musicians, choir directors, and college Music Education majors that will provide the skills and hands-on experience needed to build a successful mariachi program. Participants will learn the cultural elements, rhythms and styles unique to mariachi, explore repertoire appropriate for students at various levels, and experience traditional instruments including guitarrón and vihuela. Both sessions will be led by LBC’s own Music Specialist, José Soto.

Lifelong Learning Takes Shape this Spring with Master Classes and Student Clinics

Lifelong learning through the arts is important at LBC. It has long been a priority to bring arts opportunities to learners of all ages. We are thrilled to be planning an in-person master class with artists from Ailey II in February, a student clinic with Black Violin in March, and more to follow later in the spring.

Master classes and student clinics provide students of all ages with unique opportunities to interact directly with professional, world-renowned master artists representing a variety of artistic mediums. We aim to make these opportunities available to a wide range of participants, however, please note that master classes or student clinics may not always be open to the public.

If you would like information about student clinics or master classes,
please contact Tracy Sawyer. She would love to connect with you!
