While we are pleased to offer these performances FREE of charge while we remain virtual, the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts continues to depend on the generosity of our community to provide programs like these during this unique time. The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare: The Next Gen

The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare in a whole new kind of race with modern hurdles to overcome on the way to the finish line. 10 years after Aesop’s classic characters, the Tortoise and the Hare, have their own who are experiencing contemporary distractions. Smart phones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to save their children.

The meanest substitute teacher in the whole world returns to Horace B. Smedley School as coach of the football team! Kind-hearted Miss Nelson comes to the rescue of the rambunctious, failing team as she enlists the help of her alter ego, the ill-tempered Miss Viola Swamp. She whips them into shape with her trademark discipline, demanding tough exercises and no back talk. The team soon changes their attitude, pulls together, and sharpens their skills, but can they win the biggest game of the year?!

The timeless story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar's metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly, the fanciful account of Little Cloud’s travels through the sky, and the Mixed-Up Chameleon's discovery of his own unique nature are all brought to life with imaginative large-scale puppetry.
