Calling all young artists! LBC’s summer camp t-shirt design contest deadline is May 20

Do you know a student who loves art and wants a chance to show off their skills?  Maybe you know someone who loves our Summer Camps and has a great design idea! Here’s a chance to have student creativity showcased in a unique and tangible way.  LBC’s Summer Camps need a new t-shirt design—and kids always do it best.

LBC is asking the community to help come up with this year’s summer camp t-shirt design! The art forms represented in this year’s camps include visual art, mariachi, dance, and drama. Student designers can send us their best creative representation of our camps and, we’ll choose one design to be used as the basis for this year’s t-shirt. The design and the name of the artist will be printed on all our camp shirts!

Bellevue Elementary students' performance gains acclaim at Art of Dessert gala

Every year, LBC's Music Matters program provides ukulele classes to all Bellevue Elementary School's 3rd-5th grade students, and this year, we got to do something extra special with them! We invited the classes to perform at our annual Art of Dessert fundraiser and gala, where donors and friends of the Center celebrate and support all the work we can do in classrooms thanks to their generosity. All six participating classrooms were invited, and ultimately 48 students gathered in the LBC lobby to play and sing the song "One Day" by Matisyahu, accompanied by ukulele teaching artist Andrew DeVeny.

For Bellevue students, this was the first chance they've had to perform in front of an audience since the pandemic began. While many of the students were nervous, they were also extremely excited to share all their hard work with a supportive audience. We're so glad we got to provide a performance opportunity for these students, and we look forward to seeing many of them again next school year!

by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia

Available April 25 – May 20

LBC fan-favorite Mermaid Theatre appears virtually in one of their most popular stage shows!
