Meet the Teaching Artist: Levi Miller
|
|
|
Levi joined LBC in 2022, bringing outstanding skill and passion for teaching digital and analog art-making. Trained as a cartoonist and comic book illustrator, Levi is a master of guiding children to shape their ideas into art. A highlight was our 2023 Summer Camp
program, where Levi led two-week camps for students to write and illustrate comics. Each participating child received a printed and bound graphic novel made of everyone’s comic pages. A teacher who has worked with Levi for a residency says, “Mr. Miller has a great presence, big energy, and enthusiasm for his subject. Incredibly knowledgeable about the history of cartooning, styles, and techniques. His presentation is dynamic and impressive.”
Levi’s residencies with LBC cover comics/cartooning, digital art, and digital music production. Check out his Comics/Cartooning residency in the Artists in the Schools Spotlight section below!

IDEA IN THE CLASSROOM
Universal Design for Learning
Tuesday, October 10, 2023
4:00 – 5:30 pm
Instructor: Dr. Ryan Hourigan
LBC Education Studio
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an instructional framework that provides students with multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression within the context of their own constructed meaning of the content. The UDL framework was inspired by research into the brain and how the networks of the brain work together to help a student learn. The three networks in question are the Affective Networks (why?), the Recognition Networks (what?); and the Strategic Networks (how?). Each person’s brain is constructed differently. Therefore, each brain utilizes these networks differently. This workshop will show how the arts, combined with UDL, can make a classroom more inclusive for all styles of learning and for students who
bring different experiences and backgrounds to the classroom and how the arts can be used to enhance this framework.
