LBC’s Mariachi Program welcomes back an old friend, Sara Flores! Sara taught mariachi at Summer Camp starting in 2017. She relocated to Southern California in 2019 but recently returned to Sonoma County. Now a certified music teacher, Sara is back with the Mariachi Program, teaching after school, supporting the amazing students and instructors, and helping with this year’s Summer Camp. Sara’s incredible
musicianship, natural way with students, and dedication to the program has been missed, and we’re so glad she’s back with the LBC Mariachi family.

Las Cafeteras
Tuesday, April 26 at 9:30 am Grades 7-12
In this special performance for students, Las Cafeteras sing in English, Spanish, and Spanglish and add a remix of sounds, from rock to hip-hop to rancheras. Las Cafeteras are Native and migrant children who are remixing roots music and telling modern day stories, creating a vibrant musical fusion with a unique East LA sound and positive message. Their Afro-Mexican beats, rhythms, and rhymes deliver inspiring lyrics that document stories of a community seeking love and justice. Using traditional Son Jarocho instruments like the jarana, requinto, quijada (donkey
jawbone) and tarima (a wooden platform), Las Cafeteras use music as a vehicle to build bridges among different cultures and communities, and create “a world where many worlds fit.”
A joint presentation with the Green Music Center.

Shining a Light on History through Shadow Instructor: Bridget Palmer Grades: 1-8 Subjects: Drama, ELA, SEL
Help your students develop a love for history as they explore the emotions sparked and actions taken by individuals in a historical period of your choice. With its play of darkness, color, and light, shadow puppetry provides a stimulating medium for students’ self-expression, imagination, empathy, and creativity. In this residency, students choose a historical event to dramatize and collaborate in small groups through critical thinking, improvisation, and art making to create and present puppets, scenery, and a script. Led by Santa Rosa Children’s Theater Director Bridget Palmer, this multi-sensory residency will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
